Please remember that StuffIt Lite is shareware. This means that after you have used StuffIt Lite for 15 days and plan to use it further, you must send in the $30 registration fee. Registering your copy will entitle you to many benefits resulting from being a registered user, and will also enable additional features in the product! We encourage you to give the original StuffIt Lite installer (not your registered copy) to anyone who also wishes to evaluate StuffIt Lite.

Listed below are sections on possible conflicts and workarounds. Important information about updating and/or upgrading earlier versions of StuffIt, StuffIt Classic, and StuffIt Lite is included in this document.
Versions of Adobe Type Reunion earlier than 1.0.2 will cause StuffIt Lite to quit unexpectedly. Contact Adobe Systems for an update.
Users of System 6 without MultiFinder
----------------------------------
If your Macintosh is started up WITHOUT MultiFinder, StuffIt Lite will be unable to add comments to an archive or turn a self-extracting archive back into a standard archive.
Therefore we recommend that users of System 6 start up their computers with MultiFinder turned on.
DO NOT REMOVE your registered copy of StuffIt Lite 3.5 before running this installer. This will allow the installer to 'seek out' your StuffIt Lite 3.5 registration number and automatically install a fully registered copy of StuffIt Lite 3.6. This free update will only update _registered_ copies of StuffIt Lite 3.5.
Note: The StuffIt Lite installer will not remove or delete files from a previous installation of StuffIt Lite 3.5 UNLESS you choose to install StuffIt Lite 3.6 in the SAME folder as StuffIt Lite 3.5. Any file with the same name and location will get updated, including Translators which are located in the Extensions folder/Aladdin folder/Translators folder.
Upgrading from StuffIt Lite (version 3.0-> 3.0.7)

Using StuffIt Lite 3.6 constitutes a ‘to be paid for’ upgrade ($15) for registered StuffIt Lite 3.0.x owners. Your old registration number will not work with StuffIt Lite 3.6. If you wish to install an _unregistered_ version of StuffIt Lite 3.6, simply run the StuffIt Lite 3.6 Installer.
Note: The StuffIt Lite installer will not remove or delete files from a previous installation of StuffIt Lite 3.0->3.0.7 UNLESS you choose to install StuffIt Lite 3.6 in the SAME folder as StuffIt Lite 3.0->3.0.7. Any file with the same name and location will get updated, including Translators which are located in the Extensions folder/ Aladdin folder/ Translators folder.
Upgrading StuffIt, StuffIt 1.5.1 or StuffIt Classic (prior to version 3.0)
Using StuffIt Lite 3.6 constitutes a ‘to be paid for’ upgrade ($15) for registered users of StuffIt Classic and versions of StuffIt prior to the 3.0.x series. Your old registration number will not work with StuffIt Lite 3.6.
Note: The StuffIt Lite installer will not remove or delete files from a previous installation of StuffIt, StuffIt 1.5.1, or StuffIt Classic UNLESS you choose to install StuffIt Lite 3.6 in the SAME folder as your old StuffIt product. Any file with the same name and location will get updated.
If you wish to continue using StuffIt Classic, there are no further steps required, however, your translators will be upgraded to the current versions. If you wish to entirely replace StuffIt Classic with an _unregistered_ version of StuffIt Lite 3.6, there are several items that need to be moved, this important information follows.
Due to customer demand, auxiliary files and folders that StuffIt uses have been combined into an “Aladdin folder”. The Aladdin folder is located in the Extensions folder of the startup disk’s System folder.
Shown below are the folders installed by StuffIt Classic and what you can do to consolidate them.
Encryptors
----------
The Encryptors folder can be found in the System folder. StuffIt Lite has built-in encryption (which is enabled by registering your copy) and so does not use external encryptors at all. You may delete the Encryptors folder entirely.
Help
----
The Help folder can be found in the System folder. It is not used by StuffIt Lite. You may delete the StuffIt Classic Help file. If you do not have any other Aladdin Systems product, you may delete the Online Documentation Toolkit™ as well. If no other files reside in this folder, you may delete this folder entirely.
Optimizers
----------
Optimizers are no longer supported during Stuff operations. StuffIt Lite will use the optimizers that it finds in the Optimizers folder during an UnStuff operation if the file being UnStuffed was optimized. If you do not have any archives that contain items which have been optimized, you may delete the Optimizers folder entirely. If you do have optimized items in archives, then you will need to move the Optimizers folder into the Aladdin folder.
Preferences
-----------
The Preferences folder is found in the System folder. Delete the StuffIt Classic Preferences file found within the Preferences folder. Do not delete the entire folder since it is the location of other application preference files as well as the StuffIt Lite Preference file.
Self-UnStuffers
---------------
The Self-UnStuffers folder is found either in the StuffIt Classic folder or System folder. Since the ability to create Self-UnStuffers in built into StuffIt Lite, the Self-UnStuffers folder is no longer needed and can be deleted.
StuffIt Classic folder
--------------------
You chose the location of this folder when you installed StuffIt Classic. The folder originally contained the StuffIt Classic application, the Self-UnStuffers folder, and the StuffIt Classic User’s Guide. This entire folder can be deleted.
Translators
-----------
All previously available translators are compatible with StuffIt Lite. However, you will need to move these translators from the existing Translators folder (which is found in the System folder of your startup disk) into the Translators folder found in the Aladdin folder. Make sure the newly installed StuffIt Lite translators are not replaced by older translators. Once you have moved the previous translators, you may delete the Translators folder from your System folder. Do _not_ delete the Extensions folder, the Aladdin Folder within the Extensions folder, or the Translators folder within the Extensions folder.
